C4ISR Engineer, AVANTI

After a 20 year career in the Royal Air Force as a C4ISR Engineer, delivering, operating and procuring Satellite communications, tactical communications, Command and Control systems, radar and imagery surveillance systems, Mike has a deep understanding of how technology and systems underpin, and enable delivery of Command and Control, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance.

Serving as the strategy director for Information Superiority in the UK MOD at the time of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Mike was a key member of the Strategic Defence Review that led to increasing the focus of military capability on Counter Terrorism missions, and the adoption and implementation of Network Enabled Capability: the concept of increasing the information fraction of the Equipment Programme through targeted C4ISR acquisition programmes, so as to better understand the new enemy, and arm commanders with the right information at the right time.

Moving to industry in 2004, and working for Detica, IBM and BAE Systems on defence, cyber and crisis management programmes throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa, Mike has a strong background in delivering systems for intelligence production, surveillance, and command and control to meet the requirements of crisis management, serious and organized crime, and counter terrorism organizations.   Mike has recently moved from leading BAE Systems cyber business in KSA, to Avanti, a leading provider of satellite communications services to governments, crisis management and defence organizations.

Mike has a Master’s Degree in Aero systems Engineering from Loughborough University, and a Masters Degree in Defence Management from Cranfield University.
